I have begun the year for every class (5th-8th) posing the question, “¿Qué se aprende en una Clase de Idioma? It means “What is learned in a language classroom?”

The students’ answers are wonderfully thoughtful and creative. There are several responses displayed on the bulletin board outside my classroom. Here are just a few examples …

Es poner nuestro mundo en perspectiva. (It is putting our world into perspective) – Eirene, 6th Grade

(Here one learns to participate in other cutures. Here one learns about the beauty of another country) – Victorio (Max), 6th Grade

(Our minds and ears are no longer deaf; they are absorbing and comprehending a new language) – Helena, 7th Grade

Es explorar sin miedo maravillas sin límites. (It is exploring without fear wonders without limits) – William, 7th Grade

(In a language class, we open the door to a new world of unknown secrets) – Anja, 8th Grade

(Here we learn to absorb a variety of cultures and to accept everyone) – Jack, 8th Grade
